about

From hosting sold out parties to becoming a record label synonymous with the global sounds of Manchester. A Manchester to London-based crew including; DJs, producers, Artists & MCs, united by a love of soundsystem and street sounds. The Swing Ting collective spent the last two decades cementing itself as a part of British electronic music history. Powered by inspired and inspiring artists, with members including Platt, Samrai, Fox, Joey B, Sharda, Tarzsa, Meme Gold, LZ & Thai-Chi Rosè, Swing Ting’s sounds have cut through and energised party people nationwide. From the festival floors of “Unsound, Glastonbury & We Out here” to partying with Mixmag at SOUP in their hometown of Manchester. Swing Ting encapsulates the coolness of Manchester and the forward looking community feel that makes this city stand out as uniquely exciting both in England and the World in general, they deserve to be celebrated. Rhythm Lab Records has dug back into Swing Ting’s catalogue and in the spirit of celebrating the Manchester history of a community well built, they are re-releasing label classic “One Step” on the 9th of December.

The original “One Step” released in 2015 places production from Swing Ting co-founders Platt & Samrai at the head of their powers alongside infectious and sinister vocals from veteran Trigganom. The track sings, growling basslines and minimal percussion hits allow Trigganom the space to breathe and engulf the audience in this charismatic world. In getting someone to rework this track both labels knew they had to get a young producer who was adding something transformative to the diaspora sounds of Manny, someone who is bringing to the underground club scene the same unique and community based feel that Swing Ting has brought over the last 13 years. In came Sham Steele, “The first thing that drew me to Sham was his signature heavy hitting bass. I felt he could add something interesting to the remix of Swing Ting’s One Step. Sham is putting on the best parties in the UK, not only does Trphse have a big and loyal audience nationwide, they are championing a soulful style of electronic music that focuses heavily on galvanising a real community. As one of the founders of Trphse, a seasoned selector and a producer with a vision for the future, I thought he would be perfect for Swing Ting. To my delight, Samrai & Platt agreed!“ Emma Rose, head A&R for Rhythm Lab Records shares her thought process for bringing Sham into the project.

One step Remix is a club banger that incorporates Sham’s signature basslines and drum sounds into a soundscape that is guttural and futuristic, staking a big claim at what the sound of club music is going to be in the north and beyond for the foreseeable future. Trigganom’s vocal lines are reduced to their catchiest and most visceral mantras, ‘Just give me a little piece of this..’. The effect is almost spiritual and more importantly a bop. Grab a piece on the 9th of December.
